What are the Propers of the Mass?
Propers are those parts of the Mass that are proper, or assigned, to the various liturgies throughout the year. Because they are “proper” to each liturgical celebration, they change continuously. The Propers of the Mass include the Entrance Antiphon, the Graduale (or Responsorial Psalm), the Alleluia, the Offertory Antiphon, and the Communion Antiphon. They are distinguished from the Ordinary of the Mass, which does not change from Sunday to Sunday. The Ordinary consists of the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo (Profession of Faith), Sanctus (Holy), and Agnus Dei (Lamb of God).
