This week I introduced the letters X, Y, and Z as well as their letter sounds.  One of the best ways to practice letter identification with your child is to go on letter hunts where ever you are.  Since letters are everywhere this is a game that can be ongoing.  Ask your child to find the letters of his or her name.  They can find the letters of a family member’s name, or they can just start reading the letters that they see.  You can count how many of a certain letter you find, or see who finds the most letters.  Making it fun is the key for keeping the interest.

The spring concert is Thursday, May 16^th.  We will meet in the classroom at 5:45.  We will start singing at 6:00.  Please wear nice clothes or your school uniform.  The book fair will be open from 5-8, and in the Parish Center you can look at our Artists and Authors exhibit.  There you will see wonderful work from all the students in the school.

The end of the year is coming up quickly!  Please make note of the important dates that are listed below.

The Jog a Thon was a HUGE success!  Our Preschool classes did a great job running during their time and then had some fun cheering other classes on.  It was a wonderful way to learn about sportsmanship!  If you collected pledges and have not yet turned your pledge sheet and money in please turn it in as soon as possible.

We are finishing up the letters of the alphabet over the next few weeks.  Please continue to practice letter names and sounds with your child.  The 4 year olds should be practicing to write their name, encourage the use of capital letter for the beginning of the name only.  We are also working on sequencing numbers, to 20 for the 4 year olds, to 10 for the 3 year olds.  The 3 year olds have been learning about different types of weather and learning how to describe it.  The 4 year olds have been learning about animals, their habitats, and what an animal needs to survive.

As we are coming to the end of the year I have started to notice that some of our supplies are slowly being depleted.  If you are able to send to school some more glue sticks and/or disinfectant wipes that would be great.  These are both things that we use every day, sometimes several times a day.  Thank you to those of you who have sent in some extra glue sticks!  I would still love some more disinfecting wipes.

Sunday is First Communion at the 10:00 Mass & next Wednesday is our First Communion School Mass (please have your child dress up in either First Communion clothing or very nice attire for the Mass – and bring a school uniform to change into after the Mass) here are some reminders about Sunday’s First Communion:

Please have your child at the back of the church on Sunday at 9:30 am. There will be reserved seating for the First Communicants and one escort (the escorts will be seated in the row directly behind their First Communicant). Parents, grandparents, godparents, friends, etc. may want to find seats early up front since there will not be reserved seating for everyone else. The children will be processing in with the servers and the priest. The girls will be on the left side near the pulpit area and the boys will be on the right side (near the St. Joseph altar area).

Immediately following Mass, we will line up the students for a group picture with Father, so don’t forget to bring your cameras!

There will be a reception in the Cafeteria after Mass.

A few other things …

This Wednesday we are participating in an All-Schools Mass at St. Vincent de Paul. We still need a few drivers/chaperones for this Mass. The Mass starts at 10 am. If you have all of the current information on file in the office (background check, Call to Protect training, copy of ODL & insurance card) and are available, please let me know.

Jogathon is on Thursday – don’t forget to get those pledges and wear a yellow shirt on Thursday.

Spring pictures are going home in the homework envelopes this week.  Please review your child’s pictures and follow the directions provided with the envelope on how to pay for the pictures that you want to keep.  Any pictures that you decide not to keep need to be returned to school with the envelope they came in.  This is a time sensitive matter so please act quickly. 

The school Jog A Thon is right around the corner!  Information about the Jog A Thon and pledge sheets is also going home this week.  This is our last fundraiser for the year. Please read the information carefully.  Preschool will need to wear white shirts that day and we will be walking/running the playground for 30 minutes.  We will start at 8:30 so please try to be at school on time on that day!   Please be watching for more information about the Jog A Thon over the next couple of weeks.

We are continuing our activities about Earth Day.  What does Earth Day mean an what can we do to become more “Green”.

We will have spring conferences April 26^th.  There will be no school for students on this day.  Conferences are by request only.  If I do not have any concerns about your child’s progress I will not be requesting a conference.
